It is this time of year that we bring out the candles and light them up to resemble that glowing warm feeling! 

Our homes are the environment where we  gather family and friends,  wake up in , leave from, and return to.  Home is where the heart is. 

Because the home is central to our lives, how we decorate it plays a big key in how we feel while we are there.  For instance, go inside a home that is stark and barren like a hospital room–with only the necessary equipment in it.  The painted walls are white, there are no draperies on the windows, vinyl floor with no rugs or texture.  There is only a hospital bed, one vinyl covered chair, and instruments installed on the wall in back of the hospital bed. 

Does that environment make you feel warm and cozy?  I’ll say not!  You can’t wait to leave that stark, barren room!

Now, let’s compare your home to that hospital room.  Do you have only shutters or blinds up on your windows?  How stark and barren is that?  When you put fabric up with draperies–the insulation values cut out the drafts and cut down the heating/cooling costs you pay.  Draperies also add to the visual warmth and decor in the home.  Add to the draperies a dramatic paint color which will add more warmth to your home.  Rugs, tile, and hardwood flooring add further decor.  Lighting done tastefully adds glowing warmth to the home. 

Most people think they can DIY (do it yourself) in all these elements.  Most of the time, if people do not have expertise in knowing how to DIY, the outcome looks like they Did It Themselves and they waste alot of money and valuable time.  I have learned that I have certain skills and not others.  I save myself alot of time and headaches if I hire skilled businesses to do things I am not expert in.  We work together as a community with each person doing what they do best.

We moved to Farmington, Utah one year ago, July 2008, from Oxford, Connecticut.  Back east, fabric is used on almost every window treatment in draperies, where a warmth and decoration are added through the use of the fabric.  In Utah, alot of homes just have wood shutters up to their windows, looking stark and barren of decor.  But in homes where we have been hired to do custom draperies here in Utah,  the warmth and beauty that come fromthe  draperies adds so much beauty to the room.  Not only do draperies add beauty to the surroundings in the room, but they also add to cutting out light gaps on edges of shutters or blinds, and  insullation  cutting out  drafts around windows .
